The brass fitting is a kazari-kanagu — the ornamental metalwork that dresses portable shrines, temples and Buddhist altars. Each one is chased by hand in the engraving tradition carried on in Hiroshima. The arabesque motif, a vine that never breaks, has stood for prosperity for centuries.
Below it hangs a length of obijime, the braided cord that once tied a kimono obi. No two cords share a colour or a braid, so no two pairs are alike.
Hana-warabe is what the town of Shobara calls the children who walk in its festival processions. We borrowed the name for the tenderness in the metalwork.
What you can and cannot choose (please read)
- You choose the colour family, and nothing beyond it. Two pairs called "pink" will differ in depth and in weave, because the cords differ. What arrives will not match the photographs.
- You cannot choose which part of the cord is used. Whether your pair ends in a tassel or in the braid itself is decided cord by cord, by what that cord allows.
- The fitting comes in several patterns, and these cannot be specified either.
Only so much can be taken from a single cord. What you receive is decided by the cord — and this piece is for people who find that worth having.

Free shipping within Japan. International shipping is charged by destination region and product type, and the exact amount is shown at checkout. Duties and import taxes are also collected at checkout, so there is nothing to pay on delivery.
In-stock pieces: dispatched within 2–5 business days of payment confirmation.
Japan: 2–7 business days after dispatch · International: 7–21 business days after dispatch.
Made-to-order pieces & tailoring vouchers: production begins once payment is confirmed and takes approximately 12 weeks. For tailoring vouchers, the 12 weeks are counted from the day your fabric reaches us. Shipping time is added after production is complete.
A tracking number is provided for every shipment.
Every piece is made from vintage kimono or obi, so no two are alike. Because the fabric is cut individually, the colour, pattern and texture differ with each item.
As each piece is finished by hand, there is natural variation in engraving, stitching and dimensions. These are characteristics of the product, not defects.
Product photographs are representative examples; the pattern on the piece you receive may differ.

Because every piece is one-of-a-kind or made to order, we cannot accept returns or exchanges based on customer preference (change of mind, sizing, or the pattern differing from expectation).
If your item arrives damaged, or differs from what you ordered, please contact us within 14 days of delivery and we will arrange a return or exchange.
Made-to-order pieces can be cancelled before production begins. Once production has started, cancellation is not possible.

- Measured with the garment laid flat. Bust is the full circumference of the body.
- Women 13 is the same as L, and Women 15 the same as XL. Likewise Women 9 matches S, and Women 11 matches M.
- Each shirt is cut from a different kimono and sewn by hand, so small variations occur.
