What arrives
What you receive.
The body is an obi; the handle is ornamental brass. The handle detaches, and when the brass darkens with use, a re-polish brings it back. The cloth has a water-repellent finish.
No two obi are alike. Where the cloth is cut changes how the pattern falls, so no two bags come out the same.

Carried by the handle, how does it read against an outfit? Three combinations.
Each photograph shows a different piece we have made. The obi and the colour of the fittings differ from one to the next.

The handle
The handle is made by Kuninobu Yoshida, fifth-generation head of Yoshida Buddhist Altar Metal Fittings (founded 1890) and a certified traditional craftsman in Hiroshima Buddhist-altar metalwork. Techniques from iron fittings and ao-sentoku, the colouring of brass to blue, are carried over to the bag handle. Brass darkens with use; a re-polish brings it back. Two optional handle finishes are available, black and gold-plated; both are priced in the plan table and added on top of the plan.
The obi
The body is cut from a brand obi such as Nishijin-ori. Each length of cloth exists only once, so each bag has its own expression. A water-repellent finish guards against rain and stains. If you would rather choose the obi yourself, there is the SELECT plan.
The arabesque carved into each handle is a motif of eternity, prosperity and rebirth.

Before you order
- Every piece is one of a kind. The condition of the obi and the way the pattern falls differ from bag to bag.
- Custom details, schedule and delivery are settled in conversation with you before the order is confirmed.
- Prices include Japanese consumption tax. Duties and import taxes in your country are not included.
Choosing the obi
If you choose the obi yourself.
The SELECT plan takes three steps. The obi code is added to the enquiry form for you.
- In the obi gallery, choose one obi we have not yet cut.
- In the dialog, press “Enquire about a MIKOSHI Bag with this obi”.
- The enquiry form opens with the code of that obi already in the message, as “Preferred obi: FU30_0014”. Add your name and send.
If someone has chosen the same obi before you, we will suggest another.
From enquiry to delivery
How an order runs.
Four steps. The lead time, and what cannot change once work begins, come first.
Enquiry
Use the enquiry form. Tell us the plan, the obi code if you have one, the handle finish, and when you would like to use the bag. A person writes back; there is no automated reply.
Proposal
We reply by email with a quotation and a delivery schedule.
Confirmation and payment
The order is confirmed only once you are happy with the proposal. The delivery date is settled with you at this point.
Making and delivery
The handle is made and the bag is sewn. Delivery takes about 12 weeks (within three months). As these are made-to-order products, returns, cancellations, or specification changes are not accepted once production has begun.

Can you make one with the same pattern as the photographs?
Yes. But every obi is different, so the finished bag will not be identical to the photograph.
How much of the pattern can I specify?
It depends on the plan. Leave it to us, choose the obi, or change the construction as well. See the three order plans
How long until delivery?
About 12 weeks (within three months). What happens in that time is on the made-to-order page.
How do I care for the handle?
It detaches. Brass darkens with use, and polishing brings it back.
Can I cancel once work has begun?
As these are made-to-order products, returns, cancellations, or specification changes are not accepted once production has begun. The obi has been cut, and it cannot be restored. Before that point, cancellation is possible: email info@sfdesign.co.jp as soon as you can and we will tell you where your order stands.
Do you ship overseas?
Yes. Shipping within Japan is free. For delivery outside Japan, shipping and any duties or import taxes are charged separately. Tell us the destination country in your enquiry.

Wear the Story.
Re:ADY B is an ethical fashion brand from Hiroshima. A mikoshi is the portable shrine that carries a deity to the people; this bag carries a craft and a culture, and takes its name from that. At the London Design Awards 2026 it was recognised for upcycling obi, for Hiroshima’s traditional crafts, and for the collaboration with a Type B employment-support facility. The leather edging on each bag is hand-stitched by craftspeople at a Type B employment-support facility in Mihara, Hiroshima.
