We make one kimono jacket, and the price on this page covers that jacket. Some of the photographs below show a skirt or trousers. Those are pieces we made in the past — not something you can order as it appears. Write to us about the jacket.

We make two pieces a month, and take them in the order they arrive. When a month is full, we will tell you the next month we can start. If there is a day you need it for — a ceremony, a meeting — put that date in your first message. We will answer whether it can be met before anything else.
Tell us about your kimonoThe nine weeks start when your kimono arrives.
The clock starts on the day your kimono reaches us, not the day you order. We check first whether the kimono is suitable and whether there is enough of it, and the making begins after that — about 9 weeks from the day your kimono reaches us. Shipping within Japan adds 2–7 business days. If you choose a kimono from the Re:ADY B collection, we will tell you the start date when we talk.
Made to orderOnce the cloth is cut, there is no undoing it.
Cancellation is possible before production begins. Email info@sfdesign.co.jp as soon as you can and we will tell you where your order stands. Production begins when the scissors go into the kimono. Once it is cut it cannot be restored, so neither cancellation nor changes are possible after that point.

Your own kimono
If you already have one
The one that has stayed folded in a drawer, worn on no occasion. We turn it into something you can put on. How the pattern falls, how the cloth has aged, how much of it there is — every kimono differs, so whether it can be tailored is confirmed once the cloth is with us. Tailoring takes about 9 weeks from the day your kimono reaches us. How to send it is something we go through when we talk.

Kimono from the Re:ADY B collection
If you do not
You do not need to own a kimono. What we hold is cloth we took in before it was thrown away. We go through it with you and settle on one piece. No two kimono carry the same pattern, so the piece in a photograph cannot be reproduced. How the making time is counted in this case is something we confirm once the kimono is chosen.
Either way, the price is the same. The jacket, and the work that goes into it, do not change.
How it works
From your first message to the finished jacket.
Because the jacket is cut from a kimono we hold in our hands, this does not start with an order button. It runs in five steps.
Write to us
Use the form at the foot of this page, or email us. Tell us three things: which kimono, which size, and roughly when you want to wear it.
We tell you if we can
Our first reply tells you whether your date is possible. If the month is full, we will tell you the next month we can start.
We receive the kimono
If you are using a kimono of your own. The day it reaches us is the day the count starts. We check first that the condition of the cloth, and how much of it there is, suit tailoring.
We make it (about 9 weeks)
We settle the size and the button colour, then cut. It is about 9 weeks from the day your kimono reaches us. Once cut, the cloth cannot be made whole again.
It reaches you
Checked, packed, and on its way. After the jacket is finished, delivery takes 2–7 business days within Japan, 7–21 business days elsewhere.
You can cancel before we cut. Cutting is where the work begins, and after that we cannot take it back. When and how to pay is something we go through when we talk.
The jacket
The jacket we make.
We make both the men’s and the women’s. Both close double-breasted, in two rows. What differs is the collar, and where the colour is let in.
The men’s jacket is double-breasted. The breast pocket and the pocket openings are trimmed with the coloured cloth that was once the lining of the kimono, used just as it was. What was hidden inside comes to the front. Wear it to work, or over anything on a day off. A longer cut can be made as well.
The women’s jacket has no collar. An open neckline, long sleeves, and a front that closes double-breasted, in two rows of buttons. The colour of those buttons is yours to choose. A turtleneck worn underneath comes straight up through the neck.
