Setouchi Mirai Design Co., Ltd. (Nishi Ward, Hiroshima City; Representative Director: Karin Noda) is launching an upcycle brand called "Re:ADY B." As a collaborative project with Singularity High School (hereinafter referred to as "Singularity High School"), operated by Kowa Gakuen Educational Foundation, Re:ADY B will initiate a five-session practical class where high school students will engage in product development based on social issues.

In this project, students will gain comprehensive experience from product planning, prototyping, pricing, and sales planning to presentations for accessories made from kimonos and obi sashes. The completed works will undergo a final presentation, after which outstanding works will be selected and sold at Re:ADY B's directly managed store (scheduled to open in November 2026).

[Classes on "Products that Convey Social Issues"]

Before product creation, students will learn about the three social issues Re:ADY B addresses.

  • Inheritance of discarded kimonos/obi sashes and traditional crafts
  • Wage issues for Type B employment support offices where people with disabilities work
  • Gender gap surrounding women's life stages and careers

Students will not only consider the product itself but also understand "who made it" and "what background it has," and then plan products that incorporate their own messages to society.

The classes will also include a workshop called "Counting Invisible Hands," providing time to consider the many people involved in the completion of a single product and the value of craftsmanship.

[From Product Planning to Pricing and Social Media Promotion]

The five-session curriculum covers:

  • Understanding social issues
  • Product concept and naming
  • Accessory production
  • Cost and pricing design
  • Social media and in-store POP creation
  • Presentation

Students will experience the same process as actual brand development.
Regarding pricing, they will consider it from the perspective of "what price pays for whose work," rather than "what price will sell," learning about the value behind manufacturing.

In the final session, students will present their planned products, and judging will be based on the criterion of "whether the creators and social issues are effectively conveyed."
Selected works are planned to be sold as actual products at the Re:ADY B directly managed store.

[Comment from Karin Noda, Representative Director / CBO]

This project is not a class on making accessories. In society, there are many values that are usually invisible but supported by someone's craftsmanship and passion.
I want high school students to not just create products, but to create products that incorporate their own messages, while also considering the social issues behind them and the people involved in manufacturing.
I hope this experience will serve as an opportunity for each individual heading into society to feel that 'social issues are relevant to me.'
